10 - 11 AM

Advanced registration required by Weds. Dec. 30th. Registered students will receive the Zoom class link on Monday, January 4th.

This course examines American Jewish history in the last hundred years or so. Key themes are historically contextualized including, but not limited to, migration, labor, antisemitism, Israel, the Shoah, and cultural influence.

The class has been adapted to a Zoom format; each session will last one hour, and while Anna will cite primary sources, there will be less focus on in-class analysis of documents. Time is divided between lecture-style presentation and inquiry-based discussion constructed upon the questions and commentaries of the group. Personal and family histories bearing on the discourse are welcome. Past participation in American Jewish History - Part I is not required.

Anna Wrobel is an American historian, teacher, poet, Holocaust Studies educator and daughter of Polish Jewish refugees, a rescue partisan mother and Soviet soldier father. Her poetry and
essays appear in
Cafe Review, Lilith, Off the Coast and Jewish Currents. Anna has two poetry collections, Marengo Street (2012) and The Arrangement of Things (2018). Her work appeared
in HHRC's art and poetry exhibit,

Foundation (JPEF) and an Advanced Studies Lerner Fellow of the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR).

Anna's poetry and teaching were featured at the Maine Jewish Museum, Colby College, UMaine-Augusta, Jewish Community Alliance, USM's OLLI classes and OLLI Sage Lecture
series. Poems from the manuscript
Sparrow Feathers: Second Generation/First Person are used by teachers in several U.S. states, Poland, Germany and Israel. Anna co-hosted (until
Covid) the long-running poetry series, Lowry's Lodge, with musician/writer Jim Donnelly.
