Description

Mishpatim – this parasha (Torah portion), Shemot (Exodus) 21:1-24:18 contains more laws than any other parasha in the Torah, 53 to be exact. These laws include rules pertaining to negligence, damages, loans and justice by the courts. While other themes run through the text, in this class, we’ll look at the theme of law in the parasha and connections that might be made between Torah laws and their influence on modern societal norms and laws. Ellie Miller, long time educator, will teach this class together with her husband, Charlie, a real estate attorney now of counsel with Bernstein Shur. Required text: Any edition of the Jewish Bible (Tanakh). Supplementary readings will be provided.
