Description
The Book of Ruth, read on the spring festival of Shavuot, has much to say about the lot of a woman alone in the ancient world and how Torah laws sought to protect her. It is also a story of the resolve of women, of love and caring, of inclusivity, of the perception of worthiness, and of human determination. We’ll explore all of these themes as they are grounded within the text, and from the vantage point of ancient and modern commentators. Required text: Any edition of the Book of Ruth or the Jewish Bible (Tanakh).
