Description

Our study will cover the first parasha (portion) of the book of Bereisheet (Genesis), 1:1-6:8 which takes us through two different versions of the story of creation, on through Adam and Eve’s failure to heed God’s instruction to not eat from the Tree of Knowledge, through the murder of Cain by his brother Abel and on into the introduction of Noah.  We’ll look at a combination of text and commentary to think about and discuss what important messages are contained in these stories for the ancients and for us. Required text: Any edition of the Jewish Bible (Tanakh). Supplementary readings will be provided.
